Abstract

The dynamics of religious leadership have undergone significant transformations throughout history, reflecting the diverse cultural, theological, and social landscapes within different religious traditions. This paper delves into the evolution of religious leadership, specifically examining the roles of clergy in Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism. Through a comparative analysis, it explores the historical development, theological foundations, and contemporary functions of clergy within these three major world religions. In Christianity, the clergy traditionally hold positions of authority and spiritual guidance within hierarchical structures, encompassing ordained ministers, priests, bishops, and the papacy. Their roles involve sacramental duties, pastoral care, preaching, and administration, shaped by theological interpretations and ecclesiastical traditions.
