Abstract

The concept of Tawakkul (trust in God) holds a central place in Islamic thought, representing a balance between reliance on divine will and the exercise of human agency. This concept encourages individuals to trust in God's wisdom while also actively striving to achieve their goals. With the rapid advancement of modern science and technology, a growing debate has emerged regarding the compatibility of traditional religious teachings and contemporary scientific progress. This paper explores the intersection of Islamic teachings on Tawakkul and the developments in modern science, aiming to find a harmonious balance between the two. The study examines the philosophical underpinnings of Tawakkul in Islamic tradition, where it is seen not as a passive resignation but as a proactive approach toward life, combining effort with trust in God. It then contrasts this with the scientific worldview, which emphasizes empirical evidence, reason, and the systematic pursuit of knowledge. Through an interdisciplinary approach, this research investigates how both realms—Islamic thought and modern science—can complement each other rather than conflict. Drawing from Islamic texts, contemporary scientific theories, and philosophical reflections, the paper argues that Tawakkul can coexist with scientific progress, providing a unique perspective on the ethical use of technology, the importance of responsible scientific inquiry, and the spiritual dimension of human endeavor. It further discusses how modern scientific advancements in fields like medicine, space exploration, and environmental sustainability can be seen as part of the broader human effort to fulfill God's will while maintaining a sense of humility and trust in divine guidance.
