Abstract

The Islamic perspective on environmental ethics is deeply rooted in the teachings of the Qur'an and Hadith, which emphasize the profound connection between humans and the natural world. Islam promotes a comprehensive view of the environment, not as a mere resource to be exploited, but as a trust (Amanah) given to humanity by the Creator. This ethical framework advocates for responsible stewardship (Khalifah), urging individuals to care for the environment and all living beings in a way that reflects respect for divine creation. The core Islamic values of justice, balance, and moderation, which are central to environmental ethics, guide the treatment of natural resources, advocating for their sustainable use and protection. In light of contemporary environmental challenges such as climate change, deforestation, pollution, and the depletion of natural resources, this article seeks to explore how Islamic principles can offer solutions to these global issues. It examines the Islamic concepts of conservation and the equitable distribution of resources, emphasizing the need for environmental justice, which is an intrinsic part of social justice in Islam. The article also highlights the role of Islamic teachings in encouraging the protection of biodiversity and the prevention of ecological harm, while promoting the moral responsibility of individuals and communities. Furthermore, this paper suggests a pathway for integrating Islamic environmental ethics into modern policy-making, sustainable development practices, and ecological conservation efforts. By doing so, it aims to contribute to the global discourse on environmental sustainability, demonstrating how Islamic teachings can provide valuable insights for addressing the ecological crisis. Ultimately, the article proposes a framework for developing environmentally conscious concepts and practices that are both ecologically sound and compatible with Islamic teachings, thereby fostering a more sustainable and ethically responsible approach to environmental stewardship in the contemporary world.
