The study of Hadith has long been central to Islamic scholarship, serving as a critical source for understanding the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the foundation of Islamic law and ethics. In contemporary scholarship, the application of a critical method has gained prominence as researchers seek to bridge classical methodologies with modern analytical tools. This paper explores the critical method in Hadith studies, focusing on evaluating the authenticity, reliability, and contextual relevance of transmitted narrations. It examines the historical development of Hadith criticism, including the evolution of isnad (chain of transmission) analysis and matn (textual content) scrutiny. By integrating modern historiographical and textual analysis techniques, the study highlights how contemporary scholars assess Hadith authenticity with greater precision while addressing challenges posed by historical bias, fabrication, and interpretive discrepancies. Furthermore, the paper provides a comparative evaluation of classical and contemporary critical frameworks, emphasizing the importance of methodological rigor in ensuring the credibility and applicability of Hadith in modern contexts. This research contributes to the ongoing discourse on the dynamic interface between traditional Islamic scholarship and contemporary critical methodologies, offering insights for academics, students, and practitioners engaged in Hadith studies.
